SUMMARY:CWU National young workers education event - Glasgow
DESCRIPTION:Are you a little bit curious about the union? How it works? How you can be part of it? What can you do to make changes in your workplace? \nThe CWU Young Workers are holding an in-person event in Glasgow from the 9th – 11th June 2023 and you can go there to see what it’s all about as long as you are 30 or under.  \nYou’ll meet like-minded young workers from across the UK in both the Telecoms & Financial Services sector and the Postal sector. This way you can discuss and share ideas on how to better your own workplace\, you’ll learn about the wider trade union movement and hear from recently elected CWU officials under 30. \nThis is your chance to join other young workers in shaping the future. \nShould you wish to attend the event please contact your Branch Secretary who if they agree you can attend will pay for your travel and hotel cost and arrange release from duty.    If you have any questions regarding the event you can contact your Branch Secretary or email conferences@cwu.org

DESCRIPTION:Area Organisers\, Recruitment and Development Officers\, and Training Officers will be pulling out all the stops to give the Union a massive membership boost. \nVital to the success of this initiative is our dedicated team of reps and activists who will play a pivotal role during the Week. \nPotential \nWe will only be successful if we work as a team to strengthen our membership where we already have members and reach out to those potential members at unorganised sites. \nIt promises to be an exciting week with new promotional leaflets and posters in the pipeline and a determination to make a real difference in workplaces across the UK. \nWe need to identify the thousands of new members who are within our grasp and explain to them how Usdaw can improve their working lives. \nSpeak to your manager now about time off to organise a stall in the canteen\, or time off to talk to new starters/non-members. SUMMARY:Does devolution require a reformed UK constitution?
DESCRIPTION:Westminster’s relationship with the UK’s nations and regions has changed radically over the last 25 years. Powers have been devolved\, and new institutions in England\, Scotland\, Wales and Northern Ireland have been created. But does the UK’s constitution still work for these new arrangements or is reform needed? \nIn Scotland\, the question of independence looms large. In Northern Ireland\, the future of power-sharing is in doubt. In Wales\, there is growing interest in federalism. And in England\, the pursuit of economic development is driving regional devolution. There are shared challenges too\, including relationships with the central UK government and the lack of constitutional protection for devolved powers. \nThis event – part of the IfG and the Bennett Institute Review of the UK constitution – will bring together reflections from four roundtables held across the UK to discuss these issues\, in partnership with the Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace at Queen’s University Belfast\, the Royal Society of Edinburgh\, the Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies\, and Cardiff University’s Wales Governance Centre. What are the shared constitutional issues facing devolution across the UK? How can the unique constitutional questions across Scotland\, Wales\, Northern Ireland\, and England be addressed? And are there ways that the constitution could be improved? \nTo explore these questions\, the IfG has bought together an expert panel including: \n\nProfessor Jo Hunt\, Professor of Law in the Cardiff School of Law and Politics and a member of the Wales Governance Centre\nProfessor Nicola McEwen\, Professor of Public Policy at the University of Glasgow\nProfessor Andy Pike\, Chair of Regional Development Studies at the Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies\nSir David Sterling\, former Head of the Northern Ireland Civil Service and Chair of the Chief Executives’ Forum.\n\nThis event will be chaired by Jess Sargeant\, Associate Director at the Institute for Government
