DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to announce that the UK 2024 LGBT+ History Month theme is: \nMedicine – #UnderTheScope \nThe 2024 theme celebrates LGBT+ peoples’ contribution to the field of Medicine and Healthcare both historically and today. \nWe want to showcase the amazing work of LGBT+ staff across the NHS and in other healthcare settings\, in providing healthcare\, especially during the pandemic. Whilst still shining a light on the history of the LGBT+ community’s experience of receiving healthcare which has been extremely complicated leaving LGBT+ people still facing health inequalities even today. \nAt a time when the LGBT+ community is experiencing a rise in hate crime and hate instances we also encourage you to look ‘Under the Scope’ and listen to LGBT+ peoples’ lived experiences from LGBT+ people. \nWhen you’re planning your events\, please remember to include LGBT+ people in all our diversity and add your events to the official LGBT+ calendar. You can easily show your support in person by buying the 2024 Badge and/or lanyard and on social media by including the hashtags: #LGBTplusHM & #UnderTheScope in your post. \nWe do hope you will join us to celebrate UK LGBT+ History Month 2024.

DESCRIPTION:#HeartUnions week\, 12-18 February 2024 is a chance to tell the story about why unions are vital for everyone at work\, and encourage people who aren’t yet in a union to join. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWant a pay rise? Join a union\nUnion members earn up to £60\,000 more than non-union members over their working lives. Unionised workers are paid on average five percent more than other similar workers. Based on average pay\, the typical union pay premium is to £12\,800 over a decade. So if you want a pay rise\, it’s time to join a union. \nIn the last year\, working peoples have been forced to navigate their way through a cost-of-living crisis. The trade union movement has risen to meet this immense challenge\, winning significant pay rises and improvements to working conditions for workers in every sector. \nWhat’s HeartUnions about?\nHeartUnions is a campaign week of activity where the trade union movement celebrates unions and the good that we do. \nDuring the week we want to do two simple things: \n1. demonstrate how brilliant unions are by showcasing all that we achieve for working people – especially during the cost-of-living crisis. \n2. encourage as many people as possible who are already union members to ask someone they know to join one too. \nSo\, during the run up to HeartUnions week – and during the week itself – we’ll be sharing stories that show unions’ impact and providing reps and members with resources to help them get more people to join a union. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet involved\nWe hope unions will run their own HeartUnions campaigns highlighting what they’ve won with and for their members\, and encouraging more workers in their respective industries and sectors to join a union. \nOn social media we’ll be using the hashtag #HeartUnions. We believe every vote count should count. That would lead to a better way of running our country and help tackle disillusionment with politics. \nWhat better place to start than a meeting with Patrick Hurley\, the Labour prospective parliamentary candidate for Southport. Patrick will be our guest at our first meeting this year on 13 February at 7.30pm via Zoom. This will give us a chance to discuss his views on voting reform as he attempts to win this swing seat. A big turnout would be great\, especially if you live in Southport. This is your chance to push the case for proportional representation and show that there is public demand for PR. Patrick will be keen to hear your views.
