Wales TUC Greener Workplaces Network
June 13, 2023 10:30 am - 12:15 pm
FREE
Join us at this friendly network which is open to all trade union officers, reps and activists – including green reps, health and safety reps, union reps, union learning reps and other branch officials with an interest in tackling the climate and nature emergencies and promoting workplace sustainability.
At the June network, we’ll be discussing two topics:
– How we can successfully decarbonise supply chains?
It is estimated that up to 90 per cent of an organisation’s environmental impact comes from its value chain – either upstream (supply chain) or downstream (product use phase). Analysing and taking action to decarbonise supply chains is a vital step for all organisations seeking to reduce their environmental impact. But it is not always straightforward, because many of the issues are outside of an organisation’s direct control.
At this session, we’ll be hearing from Dr Anna Jones, Carbon Management and Climate Risk Advisor at Natural Resources Wales about NRWs’ work to decarbonise their own supply chains and how lessons learnt from this work can be shared.
– What is the Net Zero 2035 Challenge Group and how can unions get our voices heard?
The Welsh Government and Plaid Cymru have jointly invited an independent group to explore how Wales can speed up its transition to net zero, and how amending its target to 2035 from 2050 could be made possible. The group, led by former Environment Minister Jane Davidson, is tasked with imagining what a fairer, more sustainable future looks like for Wales. They want to hear from people and communities across Wales and the world to listen to their experiences and ideas, across a range of key challenges.
The first challenge is How could Wales feed itself by 2035? . Jane Davidson and Stan Townsend from the Net Zero 2035 Challenge Group will be joining us to tell us more about the work of the group and to explain how we can get our voices heard to inform the response to the challenges.
Plus, we’ll have plenty of opportunities for networking and discussion.
